Magnetie Iron Ore

Magnetite Iron Ore Properties

With the chemical formula Fe3O4, magnetite ore has much lower iron content than hematite ore. must be upgraded to make it suitable for steel making. Magnetite Iron Ore typically has much lower iron content when mined of between 25% and 40% Fe and in this form is unsuitable for steel making. The main iron mineral in magnetite ore is the ferrous iron oxide magnetite Magnetite ore requires complex processing to separate magnetite minerals from other minerals in the ore to produce an almost pure magnetite concentrate with an iron content of between 68% Fe and 70% Fe that is highly sought after by steel makers. Magnetite ore is suitable for processing into iron ore pellets for use in modern steel production and currently accounts for approximately 50% of global iron ore production. While magnetite is generally a lower-grade deposit, it is globally accepted as a viable and high-quality feedstock for the production of premium quality, low impurity steel. The processing route for magnetite requires crushing, screening, grinding, magnetic separation, filtering and drying. The final product is a high iron grade magnetite concentrate (+65% Fe), with typically very low impurities.

Magnenite Iron Ore Uses

he most significant use of magnetite lies in its status as an ore of iron and its industrial importance in manufacturing steel.Magnetite is an important material component of power plants as it is used to generate electricity. Magnetite, owing to its magnetic properties, is widely used in compasses and other navigation devices. Magnetite also serves as an excellent abrasive which is a cleaner and has way lower toxicity than abrasives that have a silica base.
Due to its unique properties, magnetite is a mineral of great scientific interest and it is widely used in laboratories as part of various experiments and mineral studies. Use of mineral magnetite for removing arsenic from water is well-known as is magnetite's reputation as an exceptionally efficient sorbent.

Magnetite Iron Ore Advantages

Magnetite ore is of little value in its raw state, but it offers considerable advantages in its concentrated form. These include providing a viable iron-making commodity for premium quality steel production. The product from magnetite ore is also of higher quality than from hematite ore. The former has fewer impurities, making it a premium product that can be sold to steel makers for higher prices. In this way, the elevated cost of processing magnetite ore can be balanced out. In addition, the higher price fetched by premium quality steel produced from magnetite concentrate can offset the costs associated with beneficiation.
Essentially, the magnetite sector offers a win-win for both producers and buyers, while also delivering benefits to both Australia’s economy and the global environment.

Magnetite Iron Ore Deposit

Magnetite is sometimes found in large quantities in beach sand. Such black sands (mineral sands or iron sands) are found in various places, such as California and the west coast of the North Island of New Zealand. The magnetite is carried to the beach via rivers from erosion and is concentrated via wave action and currents.Huge deposits have been found in banded iron formations. These sedimentary rocks have been used to infer changes in the oxygen content of the atmosphere of the Earth.
